Wester Ross aquaculture business recognised at Scottish Export Awards 2017

Scotland’s oldest independent owner-operated salmon farm which operates from Dingwall and Ullapool has been recognised at the HSBC Scottish Export Awards 2017.

Wester Ross Fisheries Ltd has been selected as highly commended in the small exporter of the year category at the awards ceremony which took place in Glasgow last night (22 March).

The awards recognise Scotland’s top exporting companies and serve as an important platform for internationally operating businesses to promote their brand, generate publicity and attract potential investors.

Wester Ross Fisheries employs 60 staff and is the largest private-sector employer in Ullapool.

Managing director of Wester Ross Fisheries, Gilpin Bradley, said: “Over the last forty years we have grown significantly and we are delighted to be highly commended at the Scottish Export Awards in what has been a very busy year for us.

“We are thrilled to be recognised for our on-going commitment to our natural approach to salmon farming which has generated loyal customers from all over the world."

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) congratulated Wester Ross Fisheries. Martin Johnson, head of international trade and investment at HIE, said: “Congratulations to Gilpin and his team on their achievement on a night which celebrated the diversity of exporting achievements in Scotland.

“We are pleased to have worked with all of the finalists from the Highlands and Islands and are supporting them to enter new markets, develop skills, knowledge and confidence to grow their companies overseas.”

BQ managing director Bryan Hoare said the judges had seen a significant increase in the numbers of quality applications this year. “There’s a real sense of pride amongst Scottish firms when they consider their achievements in export, and we’ve seen that in spades during this year’s competition.

“As we work to recognise those businesses who lead the way, and inspire more to follow in their footsteps, we couldn’t be more proud to work with these exceptional exporters, helping to showcase their stories”.

The awards are supported by Scottish Enterprise, HSBC Scotland and BQ magazine
